A destination farmstay

Originally the home of “America’s Favorite Farmer,” the house became a quiet retreat for culinary travelers drawn to the PBS-featured Chef & the Farmer and the broader food culture of Eastern North Carolina. Warren and his wife, Jane, didn’t need just another farmstay—they needed a story that revealed why this place mattered.

We developed a brand strategy that positioned The Harvest House as more than a stop along the way—as an invitation into Warren’s world of farming and the region’s food culture, shaped by integrity, land, and lived experience.

Through narrative development, we moved beyond rustic clichés, allowing the name itself to open the door to star-washed harvest dinners, long farm-table meals, intimate wine tastings, soulful weddings, restorative retreats, and artful editorial moments. The visual identity drew directly from the farm—soil, organic vegetables, and traditional crops —pairing a shovel (one farmer, his tools, his work) with a keyhole: a simple, honest symbol of welcome.

Today, The Harvest House tells a complete story. It’s not just where guests stay—it’s where they connect with the farmer who shapes the land, the culture it sustains, and the meaningful experiences that grow from it.

Grounded earth tones reflect the land, and the brand combines photography and simple icons to honor both the farmer and the home, each shaped by the same pair of hands.

The shovel and keyhole work together to suggest that guests are given the “key” to the Farmer’s House—an invitation. The shovel symbolizes small-scale, traditional farming done by one man and his tools, while the keyhole nods to the vintage doors and hardware found throughout the home.

Fans of the PBS series will recognize the antique tub inspired from Warren’s signature solution to washing crops on the farm and will find that this icon also connects to the tubs found throughout the home.
